The Almighty in his Goodness has favoured Sharanyagiri Ashrama to unfold on Chilimbi Hill, Belvai, Moodabidri, Mangalore. Sharanyagiri Ashrama stands to promote the Art of Self-Integration and Cosmic Harmony.
The Ashrama Pratishtha took place on November 24, 2007 at 11.00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Fr. Vensus George, SAC, the then Provincial of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Province, Bangalore, was invited for the Blessing Ceremony and has blessed the new building of the Ashrama. Sister Sulochana D'Souza kindled the first flame of the light in Sharanyagiri Ashrama and Fr. Thomas Ezhormattam, SAC, dedicated the Ashrama for the Glory of the Almighty and for the service of Humanity, rising above the differences of organizations, societies, caste, creed, religion and nationality.
Sharanyagiri Ashrama is a place for all to experience silence and harmony and it works on the vision that "May all be one". It is a place for seeking God in silence and prayer and to understand the religious search inherent in the religious traditions of our land. Hence, Sharanyagiri Ashrama is not a retreat centre, nor an institution, but a place of intense and sustained spiritual quest, where one lives a deep selfless, renounced, ascetical life, living solely on God's Providence.
An Ashrama life is an unique way of being in the world in search of the Absolute and therefore, Sharanyagiri Ashrama, as in the Indian Traditional sense, is totally an independent entity away from all the influences of organizations, societies, cast, creed, religion and nationality. Its existence and survival is totally in God's care. The Almighty has allowed Fr. Thomas Ezhormattam and Sr. Sulochana D'Souza to be instrumental in evolving this Ashrama.
Sharanyagiri Ashrama Community on the whole will be consisted of both men and women from different walks of life and faith. An evolved and transformed group, who constantly live the Ashrama Community-life in silence, prayer and meditation, will take the vision of Sharanyagiri Ashrama forward in order to render humanity a way of seeking and living for the Almighty God.
Any genuine person, irrespective of religion, caste, creed, etc., with a real and sincere yearning for God, must find in this Ashrama, a quiet place and an atmosphere for prayer and meditation. Hence, Sharanyagiri Ashrama by nature is simple, peaceful, austere and welcoming. May all come to the knowledge of the Truth and serve our God with our whole heart. May peace and joy prevail in every heart and may all attain liberation.
