The Permanent Secretariat for Formation in India (PSFI) has organized a training programme for all the Prefects and Assistant Novice Masters of the three Pallottine entities on June 18 & 19, 2016, at Villa de Pallotti, Parra, Goa. This programme was attended by 8 members of ABVM and Prabhu Prakash Provinces. This was to introduce the role and responsibility of the Prefect for the better formation of students. The resource person, Dr. Peter Castelino, a psychiatrist, who shared about, knowing and understanding the mind of an adolescent, also highlighted the need to spot out the behaviour, which was not appropriate and in-line with the priestly way of life. Later Fr. Valentine Alphonso shared with the group the role of the formator in the seminary and highlighted the need for use of psychology and human sciences in formation. In the second day of the seminar, Fr. Antony Viyagappan spoke on “An Orientation for the Pallottine Way of Life” following which, the participants had a group discussion over the challenges and difficulties that they face in the formation of the students. In the second session, three brothers from Casa Pallotti community shared their experience of their initial formation in the vocation orientation centre from different regions. At the end, Fr. Patrick summed up the day by sharing his experience as formator in seminary and suggested some suitable ways to carry out the responsibilities of the formators at the different level of formation. Overall it was a fruitful time spent together. We thank the PSFI for organising this programme.
