PALLOTTI VIDYANAM, NIDAMANURU (DIOCESE OF VIJAYAWADA, ANDHRA PRADESH)
Subsequent to the decision of the 1987 Regional Assembly on Regional Vocation Orientation Centres (VOC), a VOC was opened for fostering vocations from Andhra Pradesh. Initially it was started in Palakol. On January 16, 1988, land for the construction of the VOC was purchased at Nidamanuru, about 6 kilometers from the city of Vijayawada, on the Vijayawada-Eluru highway. The foundation stone for the proposed building was blessed by Most Rev. Joseph Thumma, the Bishop of Vijayawada, in February 1990 and laid by Fr. Johannes Moosmann, SAC, the Mission Secretary of the Sacred Heart Province, Germany, who was then on a visit to India. Fr. Thomas Tharakunnel, SAC, was appointed as the first Director of Pallotti Vidyanam and he was entrusted with the task of the construction of the VOC. Most Rev. Joseph Thumma, the Bishop of Vijayawada, blessed the new building on January 21, 1993. The first batch of students began their studies there from the Academic Year 1991 - 1992. The other Pallottine confreres who served here as Directors are Frs. Alex Crasta, SAC, Jwanes Reddy, SAC, and James Joseph, SAC. The present Director is Fr. Jojappa Chinnabathini, SAC.
